My Party Bus drifted silently alongside Nouveau Limoges. I wondered if this was going to be the tomb for my current body…

Note: A record is some sort spinning data storage device, also known as a hard disc drive. The scratch sound implies the "head" that reads the data suddenly stops.

Record scratch

Yup, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

A few tenspans back, I let my Gaule Visa expire, which was a huge mistake. I knew when it was going to happen; it just happened at a really inconvenient time. I was snoozing away on my pilot chair when the panel in front of me started booping and beeping and flashing, and I was rudely awakened by Party Bus suddenly moving. Then a loud clang - the sound of releasing clamps… and then silence.

Now normally Gaule traffic control would end up forcing me to quickly come up with a viable flight plan to the most convenient Consortium station, but I didn’t have one. I was out of fuel, having forgotten to refuel Party Bus before my Visa expired (one of the few downsides of being a Mall, memory). I wondered if they would let me back in, or that I would have to die out here to be able to escape.

The only problem with that plan is that my death would cause me to be deported as soon as my consciousness was transferred, since my clone was gestated on Estación de Amazon, another Gaule station. Also, I had no idea what would happen to my Party Bus in the meantime, and this ship is my best engineering project to date.

“Oh, maird, you again?” Apparently the Gaule didn’t forget about my previous Visa fiasco, and the same customs officer was assigned to my case. After digitally signing and submitting some documents, she extended my Visa by another 100 segments, allowing me to dock with the station again. I thanked her profusely, and quickly made my way to the refuelling platform.
